Safe as standard! Read about our Accreditations
It goes without saying, but for over thirty years, the safety of our visitors has been at the centre of everything we do at Kingswood. A visit to a Kingswood centre will give your child an opportunity to experience the thrill of the outdoors first-hand, and give you the peace of mind that they are supported by our excellent safety standards.
As well as regular internal inspections, we work closely with outside experts to ensure our activities are safe, our facilities are maintained, and our health and safety regulations are adhered to or exceeded. Kingswood works with the NSPCC in implementing best practice procedures for child care and child protection.
All of our centres have well defined boundaries, often with security fencing. Our largest sites have security gates and CCTV at the main entrance, and all staff and visitors must wear security ID at all times.
Each of our centres has an on-call Duty Manager available to deal with any issues that may arise during your child’s stay and to help solve any issues or concerns. There is also a Duty First Aider available 24 hours a day, with a dedicated first aid room at their disposal.
All centres have had a comprehensive Fire Risk Assessment and operate in accordance with our Fire Safety Policy.
Activity Leaders are the inspirational and dedicated adventurers who help ensure the safety of our guests while undertaking any activity on site.
All our instructors go through a rigorous recruitment process including two interviews, an extended assessment course consisting of observed teamwork and leadership exercises and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. All staff complete a comprehensive two week induction programme that includes NSPCC Child Protection training and Health & Safety qualifications. Following this induction, staff are trained in each of our activities by experts in that field.
The Camp Coaches go through the same vigorous interview and induction programme as the activity leaders. Their job is slightly different, but just as important. At Kingswood, we recognise that your child’s welfare doesn’t stop with their physical well-being.
Camp Coaches are always on hand to provide support and encouragement, safe supervision, and to help children stay involved no matter their confidence level. If this is your child’s first trip away, it’s the Camp Coaches that provide them with the smiling, friendly face of support. They are there to be a buddy, look out for them, ‘have their back’ and provide a fair few laughs.

Some higher risk activities, such as watersports, require the provider to prove they meet additional safety standards. The Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) issues licences to activity providers to operate activities that have been externally inspected to confirm they are safe, well organised and risk is being managed.
Kingswood has been inspected and we have proudly been awarded the LOtC Quality Badge for all of our operational centres. Information can be found here www.lotcqualitybadge.org.uk
Kingswood is a founder member of BAPA, the British Activity Providers Association. BAPA seeks to safeguard standards and be a voice to champion the benefits of activities for young people. Member centres must abide by the BAPA ‘Code of Practice’ and are committed to high standards of health and safety. This commitment is tested during inspections by independent BAPA inspectors. Further details on BAPAs ‘Code of Practice’ and other information can be found at www.thebapa.org.uk.
Adventuremark is a safety accreditation scheme devised by the Adventurous Activities Industry Advisory Committee on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families. Adventuremark compliments the Quality Badge scheme that supports the Learning Outside the Classroom manifesto, and confirms that providers of adventurous activities that are outside the scope of statutory licensing regulations have been inspected against nationally agreed and recognised standards. Information can be found here www.adventuremark.co.uk
